About Colorado State University
Colorado State University is a public university in Fort Collins, which is a Home Rule Municipality, spread along the Colorado Front Range, and the county seat, as well as the most populated city of Larimer County, in the US state of Colorado. Fort Collins was founded in 1864, as a military outpost of the US Army, and it is known today as the 5th most populated city in the state of Colorado, having a population estimated at a number of nearly 140 000 inhabitants (2008).
Colorado State University, also known as simply CSU, was founded in 1870, as Colorado Agricultural College, 6 years before Colorado Territory gained statehood. CSU opened its doors for the 1st time in 1879, to a number of only 5 freshmen, and it was one of the 68 land-grant colleges that were established under the Morrill Act of 1862.
Since its founding, University Colorado State grew, having today an enrollment of nearly 30 000 students, 1400 faculty members in 8 different colleges, as well as 55 academic departments. CSU currently offers its students bachelor’s degrees in more than 60 fields of study, master’s degrees in 59, as well as doctoral degrees in nearly 40 fields of study.
